Statement: Granting DOGE Access to Immigration Records Poses Severe Privacy Risks

WASHINGTON — In response to a recent Washington Post article about Justice Department leadership granting DOGE access to confidential records kept by the nation’s immigration court system, Dana Leigh Marks, a retired immigration judge in San Francisco (1987 to 2021) and active member of Justice Connection’s advisory committee made the following statement:

“Allowing DOGE access to the immigration courts’ records risks devastating consequences for millions of asylum seekers, victims of domestic violence, and unaccompanied minors. The Justice Department is required to follow strict confidentiality and privacy provisions contained in law for a reason—the release of sensitive information could endanger the lives of those who return to their homelands, as well as vulnerable people still in the United States.”

Justice Connection decries this latest assault on privacy and implores Justice Department leadership to protect the rights of all individuals in our country, including the most vulnerable among us.
